10 Digital Ladies partnered with specialist health communications agency ZPB Associates to run a 10 Digital Ladies in Healthtech event held June 30th.

The event specifically looked at how private sector SMEs / start-ups are working with public sector bodies such as the NHS to transform how we manage our health, and access services such as GPs and our personal records.

Julie Bretland, founder of Our Mobile Health, who also helped to set up Digital Health.London; an organisation aiming to help SMEs to more effectively work with the NHS, talked prior to and at the event about some of the major challenges facing SMEs to crack the NHS market and what progress is being made to improve the situation to speed digital innovation.

The head of NHS England, Simon Stevens, has announced the launch of a new programme to fast-track cutting-edge innovations from across the globe to the NHS frontline.

In his keynote speech to around 1,000 NHS leaders at the NHS Confederation Conference in Manchester, Simon Stevens announced that for the first time the NHS will provide an explicit national reimbursement route for new medtech innovations. This will accelerate uptake of new medtech devices and apps for patients with diabetes, heart conditions, asthma, sleep disorders, and other chronic health conditions, and many other areas such as infertility and pregnancy, obesity reduction and weight management, and common mental health disorders.

Developing a new way of doing healthcare

13/6/2016

This month, an online article was published at digitalhealth.net, discussing how mHealth apps are transforming healthcare in developing countries. You can read the whole article here.
Founder of Our Mobile Health, Julie Bretland, was quoted in the article, saying, “In countries where transport infrastructure is lacking and the ratio of doctors to people is low, providing access to health services through the mobile phone makes sense.”

She concluded, "In the UK, we obviously have an existing world class health care system and infrastructure, but given the current economic pressures on the health service, providing more convenient access to a greater number of people at a potentially lower cost is worth investigating."
